Understanding The Heart Of God Revealed

understanding the heart of god

Introduction

As Christians, we have been taught that God is our Father. He is present everywhere around us in spirit with no physical body. But that, we will meet Him in person someday when the time comes, to do so. Yet, if we look in the Bible, it says that God has characteristics of a man like you and me, with eyes, ears, nose, lips, arms, legs, body, and so on. And so, if there is a body there surely must be a heart right? In fact, all the times we have been taught that God is an invisible spirit; we still talk about God’s heart many times. Understanding the heart of God is something you can discover from the Word of God. God’s heart unlike the human heart may not be physically present but it overflows with unconditional love and grace for all mankind. God loves us so much that he created man in his own image.

Trust and Love

Trust and Love

To understand God’s heart is to trust and love him indefinitely and unconditionally. As sinners, we make mistakes every day but God always forgives us. He simply understands our hearts and covers our sins with his love and grace. And as such, God also longs for you to seek him out and for understanding his heart. God sent his only begotten son Jesus, to save mankind. Jesus, while on his journey to earth tried to reach people from all walks of life to preach the Word of God and let people know about God, the father.

In the Bible John 17:3, Jesus says,

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

And in verse 26 of John chapter 17, Jesus said a prayer to the Father,

“I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

The Heart of God

The Heart of God

God sent Jesus, his son so that we will know and understand the heart of God. Whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Through Jesus, we were granted access to grow closer to God. And the Holy Spirit that lives within all of us helps us in searching and understanding the heart of God better.

In the Bible, 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 says:

"For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God."

Through this passage, we can understand that God has always welcomed us all in understanding his heart.

God’s heart is Tender

God's heart is Tender

God’s heart is tender. His heart is forgiving and empathetic. When he created us in his image, he did it out of pure love for us. But sometimes as humans, we tend to take God’s love for granted. As mankind grew, they went to go their separate ways and began to erect and worship man-made Gods and Goddesses. By reading the Bible we get access to many important insights into God’s heart. The Word of God is God’s truth and in it, God revealed his heart.

In the bible, 1 Kings 11: 4-9 it reads,

“As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done. On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.  He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.  The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.”

God’s Heart is sympathetic

God’s Heart is sympathetic

As evidently seen in the Bible, God’s Heart is sympathetic toward us. Psalm 103: 8-18, it reads,

"The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone,  and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting. The Lord’s love is with those who fear him and his righteousness with their children’s children with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts."

God’s tender heart is always ready to forgive us even when we fail and sin against him. However, we should never take advantage of the grace that God has given us. You should strive to become better than you were yesterday.

Bottom Line

Indeed, God has always prepared us all to really understand his heart and what he means to us all. As his children, we know that he loves us and that he sacrificed his only son to pay a huge price for our sins. We will be lost without him. Understanding the heart of God is to prepare ourselves spiritually at all times to receive him! Glorify God and have faith in Jesus, his son and the kingdom of God will save you!
