attributes of our heavenly father

Read this article to learn about the characteristics and Attributes of Our Heavenly Father according to the Scripture.

Overview

As Christian, when we are in dilemma or want something, we pray to God, our Father, seeking answers. Sometimes we get what we want and feel happy and blessed. But there are times when we don’t find answers to what we are looking for and we get frustrated and question the existence of God. So, according to you who is God? What is he like?  Is he a loving and compassionate father? Or a mighty and righteous one who punishes anyone who disobeys him?

These are questions most of us often find ourselves asking and pondering. The truth is God our father is the first person of the Trinity, followed by God the Son i.e., Jesus Christ as the second person, and the third person is God the Holy Spirit.  He is the living God. The Holy Bible is the answer to all our confusions and questions regarding the attributes of our Heavenly Father. As we read the Bible and Meditate upon the Word of God, we will learn about the characteristics of our Father and find our answers.

God’s attributes that remind us of how blessed we are!

God’s attributes that remind us of how blessed we are

The attributes of Our Heavenly Father are actually endless if we were to even think about them. He is infinite. He is self-existing, has always existed and has no origin. In the book of Colossians 1:17 says, “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together,” the book of John 1:1 –“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” these two verses support this fact though it may be tough for many believers and non-believers to fathom this. It is beyond our limited mind to understand that he exists beyond that. He is eternal. Below we have mentioned some attributes of our Heavenly Father.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever

Our Father is immutable and he has remained so since the beginning of mankind. Because he has not changed, he is still the merciful, just and loving Father.

He has Everything

He is self-sufficient and has no needs. It also means he has everything. We on the contrary are the opposite and have unlimited needs and wants though it is not required. We are greedy and selfish. But when we are genuinely in need and worried, he will come to our rescue. If we follow him faithfully, we never have to worry about our needs.

God is omnipotent

He is the most powerful. In the book of Genesis, we have read about the creation of Earth, day and night, flora and fauna, air and water and most importantly, our first parents- Adam and Eve. So, we know how mighty he is and there is nothing he cannot accomplish.

Our Father is omniscient

It means he knows everything and there is nothing he does not know. Therefore, he knows all our problems, wants and needs even before you know.

He is omnipresent

It simply means he is everywhere, always with us, be it good times or bad times. This will hopefully bring a sense of comfort to those who think nobody wants them and they are alone.

Our Father is just and wise

He punishes those who committed crime and fled. Because he is wise, whatever he has planned for us, his children, we can trust the destiny or path he has chosen for us.

He is perfect

God, our Abba Father is the definition of perfection, everlasting love, kindness and goodness. He loves us more than we could ever imagine. He loves us unconditionally even when we are at our worst. In his eyes we are all equal.

God is merciful

He is forgiving and compassionate. There is none like him. He receives even the worse sinner with his open arms without any impartiality. Without his mercy, we will all be like a lost wanderer.

CONCLUSION

When we were young, most of us used to go to the Sunday Class. There we were taught about our Father in heaven, his son Jesus Christ, the holy spirit and about the glorious attributes and marvelous creations of our Father. His greatness and holiness are unarguable and it is an understatement. The bible says he has us in his own likeness/image. Therefore, it should be our utmost aim to emulate our Father and be his faithful and good children.
